Sustainable Natural Filler PP Material Resistant to Outdoor Conditions

Sustainable Natural Filler PP Material Resistant to Outdoor Conditions

The sustainability approaches adopted by our industry have become increasingly important due to a carbon-free future, less dependence on fossil resources, and environmental regulations. The use of materials developed from sustainable resources in functional parts in automotive, daily life and industrial applications is essential to global goals and a greener approach across the industry.

eurotec® continues to make the difference in the industry with the products developed in line with this aspect. It has developed PP-, ABS- and PE-based Tecolenbio and Tecotekbio products as an alternative to traditional fillers and reinforcing materials using wood shavings, jute fiber, rice husks, walnut shells, agricultural waste such as coffee waste, consumer food waste, and natural fibers.

The use of biomaterials has become widespread in many areas, such as automotive parts, packaging industry, food industry and daily life thanks to their natural and environmentally compatible compositions, minimum energy consumption and capability of being manufactured with high efficiency.  These composites offer many advantages, such as efficient use of resources, less carbon footprint, and utilization of renewable resources.

One of the most challenging characteristics of natural fillers compared to conventional fillers and reinforcing materials is their inherently low UV resistance. This is one of the properties especially critical to the applications that need to be resistant to outdoor conditions. With the right stabilization and optimized formulations, eurotec® offers products with sustainable natural filler/fiber content that perform better and withstand outdoor conditions to meet technical and demanding requirements.

The product Tecolen® BIO HP50 ZF20 BR043 CU 03 0H with a content of 20% glass fiber/natural filler was tested according to ISO 4892-2 test method for 1500 hours and benchmarked by the initial surface properties (Figure 1). Color and surface appearance properties were checked with the test performed by simulating outdoor conditions. The product is perfectly suited to the use in harsh outdoor conditions with its optimized filler/reinforcement ratio and its formulation delivering the right stabilization.
